There are so many neat things on our property that we've found over the years. One of them is the "old foundation". It measures about 18' x 26'. The walls are close to 2' thick! They just don't make 'em like they used to. lol

That's an interesting find Cath. I would want to know all the history on that if it were on my property. It would be interesting to try and figure it all out. I think it just might make a good root celler maybe.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an OUTSTANDING future root cellar to me! Lots of storage space for all kinds of stuff...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these pics with us!
Hey Mark! As soon as we bought the place, people came out of the woodwork to tell us all about it. The guy who was deeded this land in 1896 was Isaac L. His grandson who is a very old man and lives on the next piece of property told us great stories! Another neighbour brought us a picture of our cabin when it was the school - all the kids standing out front. Real cool stuff!

Hey Jim!! Thanks for stopping by to see the pics! When we're up there this weekend, I'll try to take pics of the stone fence just snaked into the middle of the bush...just incredible! It amazes me how much work these old fellas had to do, just to clear a field to plant some food to keep their families from starving! I'm afraid each generation is just getting softer!

It looks like it will be a great root cellar! We had an old foundation out back where my brother and I explored it all the time! What a blast!
ReplyDeleteHey Warren! I can well imagine all the trouble you and your brother got into! hehe
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in.
I love it. I love anything made of stone and this will make a great cellar for you. Talk about luck, having this wonderful thing just waiting for you. That's great.
